The Ogun State Security Network, with the code named ‘Amotekun corps’ said the command has arrested Emmanuel Obi suspected to be involved in illegal drug trade.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Intelligence and Investigation of the corps, CSP Shodeke Sholanke, on Friday in Abeokuta.

He said Obi was apprehended in the busy market area of Ayetoro in the Yewa North Local Government Area of the state.

Solanke said the suspect was arrested following credible intelligence received by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state that Obi was orchestrating drug deals in the region.

He said that Obi had enlisted the help of a commercial driver, known as Alausa, who is currently in NDLEA custody.

“Alausa had been tasked with transporting a substantial quantity of suspected hard drugs from Abeokuta to Ayetoro, with an estimated value running into millions of Naira.

“On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the NDLEA in the state intercepted an 18-seater Mazda bus, along the Abeokuta/Ayetoro road.

“During interrogation of the driver, it was revealed that Obi was the owner of the seized items.

“The information received led to the swift action of Amotekun operatives after intelligence was equally received from the State NDLEA, which led to the arrest of Obi.

” The Ogun Amotekun expresses its commitment to further collaborate with operatives of NDLEA in tackling drug abuse and trafficking in and around Ogun.

“Our operation underscored the agency’s ongoing efforts to rid society of criminal elements involved in the drug trade.

“The command further emphasised the importance of community involvement in providing information to combat the menace of drug abuse and trafficking.

“As investigations progress, authorities have called on the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the well-being of the community,”he said.

He said Emmanuel has since been transferred to the Ogun command of NDLEA for further investigations and prosecution.
