Four African countries will make their debut in the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Inter-Club Championship scheduled for Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Wednesday that the tournament would hold from Tuesday to April 14 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The tournament will feature 24 teams, with  Botswana, Burundi, Cote d’ Ivoire, and the Republic of Benin making their debuts at the continental competition.

Their participation marks a significant expansion of the championship, introducing fresh talents and competition to the event.

Representing these nations in the tournament are, Spiking Stars Volleyball (Botswana), Muzinga Volleyball Club and Gender Light Club (Burundi), Club Omnisports Descartes (Cote d’Ivoire), and Queen’s Volleyball Club (Benin Republic).

These new entrants will face tough competition from experienced teams, but their inclusion is expected to inject excitement and energy into the championship.

The stage is set for an electrifying display of volleyball prowess as the participating teams begin to arrive in Abuja.

NAN reports that among the first to arrive were Al Ahly of Egypt, the record championship winners, alongside Egyptian club Zamalek on Sunday.

Botswana’s Spiking Stars VC arrived on Monday, while the host nation’s representative Nigeria Customs Service team, also arrived in the country from a training tour.

The tournament promises to be a thrilling spectacle, showcasing the skill and determination of Africa’s finest female volleyball players.

The 24 participating teams are, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Navy (CNS Spikers), Egypt: Al Ahly Sporting Club (AHL), Zamalek Sporting Club (ZMK)

Others include; Burundi: AS Douanes (BUR), Muzinga Volleyball Club (MUZ), Gender Light Club (GLC),Senegal: Sococim (SOC),Democratic Republic of Congo: Volleyball Club La Grace (VGL), Volleyball Club La Loi (VLL).

Ethiopia National Alcohol and Liquor Factory (NAL), Tunisia: Club Féminin De Carthage (CFC), Cameroon: Forces Armées et Police (FAP), Litto Team Volleyball (LTV), Maya Kane Evolution (MKE)

Also expected are; Botswana, Spiking Stars Volleyball (SSV), Côte d’Ivoire:, Club Omnisports Descartes (COD), Benin Republic,  Queen’s Volleyball Club (QVC)

Others are; Rwanda Revenue Authority Volleyball Club (RRA), Armée Patriotique Rwandaise Volleyball Club (APR), Police Volleyball Club (PVC), Kenya: Kenya Prisons Volleyball Club (PRI), Kenya Commercial Bank Volleyball Club (KCB), and Kenya Pipeline Company Volleyball Club (KPC)

With the teams set and the excitement building, the African Women’s Volleyball Inter-Club Championship is poised to deliver an unforgettable tournament, celebrating the best of African volleyball.

Meanwhile, the hall is wearing a new look, while a technical meeting is scheduled for today at 7 p.m. to finalise preparations.

The matches are expected to kick off on Thursday from 7 p.m.

The event is expected to be graced by Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, who will officially declare the game open.
